Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab Mosque

Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab Mosque is located in Al-Bujairi district in Diriyah, with a design that is consistent with the architectural style of the region. It is surrounded by spaces decorated with green landscapes, palm trees, and stone terraces. The mosque dates back to the time of the first Saudi state. It was built using mud with stone foundations. It was rebuilt using concrete at the expense of the late King Fahad bin AbdulAziz Al Saud in 1424 H. The mosque bears the name of Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. He was a highly regarded religious scholar during the era of the first Saudi state due to his contribution to the dissemination of Islamic teachings, writing scholarly papers, and teaching students in the mosque’s gatherings –which were called katatib in the past. The mosque contains several facilities and supporting services, including: The main mosque, which contains 16 doors in the traditional Najdi style to facilitate the movement of worshipers, in addition to a ladies’ mosque. The mosque also contains a school of Qur’anic sciences, and two Eastern and Northern courtyards. The Eastern courtyard is decorated with 18 palm trees and is cooled through six natural ventilation towers. There is also a main fountain that works as a guide to the direction of the qiblah, in case worshipers use this courtyard for prayer.

Ghasiba District

Ghasiba district, located on the banks of Wadi Hanifa, is the core from which Diriyah was founded, and represents the beginning of its long history which exceeds 600 years. The historical Ghasiba district is considered the oldest residential district in Historical Diriyah. Since the fifteenth century and until the eighteenth century AD, the early generations of the ruling family came from Ghasiba district, where it was the first residence of the ruling family before it moved to the At-Turaif district. Ghasiba district is distinguished by its strategic location at the top of a triangular plateau, overlooking Wadi Hanifa from three sides. The Northern side is surrounded by a huge wall that is 4 meters thick. In the middle of this wall, there is a gate that was used to allow camel convoys, the only means of transportation and carrying goods to the residents of this district, to cross through. It was founded in 1765 AD, where it was the headquarters of government during the era of the first Saudi state. The palace includes seven residential units. It was given this name because of its construction that has multiple uses, which makes it a consolation for its residents and visitors. There are several historical buildings and palaces near Salwa Palace. You can also see a summary of the Saudi social life in the past in the Museum of Social Life, as it includes the olden methods of writing and education. It also provides its visitors with the intricate details and divisions of the Saudi house, which takes into account the guests, neighbors, and residents of the house in its construction. On the other hand, at the Arabian Horse Museum, you will enjoy the stories of Arabian horses, learn about their breeds, and their strength and beauty.

Salwa Palace

In 1766 AD, Imam Abdul Aziz ibn Muhammad ibn Saud built this ancient historical monument to be the home of the state and the headquarters for AlSaud’s princes and imams. It has witnessed essential milestones in the history First Saudi State; the unification of most of the Arabian peninsula, the orders to comply with the teachings of Islam issued from it; and halls dedicated to councils of science, culture, and religious education on its grounds. As one of the largest palaces in Diriyah, Salwa palace extends over an area of 10,000 square meters and includes seven multi-floor residential units. The immaculate and firm distinctive structure was built in successive stages to reach its current massive lofty state. Next to the palace is an open court used to receive guests. The floors are paved with stones, and there is a high thick wall on the southern side that holds a bridge connecting Salwa to the Turaif Mosque. The Palace’s facades have decorative triangular windows designed for ventilation and to bring natural light into the rooms, not to mention the decorative aesthetical appearance they add to the place. The palace is surrounded by the Bait Al Mal (the state treasury), Al-Tarif Mosque, and a well that used to supply the residents of the palace with water.
