About Ghasiba District
Ghasiba district, located on the banks of Wadi Hanifa, is the core from which Diriyah was founded, and represents the beginning of its long history which exceeds 600 years. The historical Ghasiba district is considered the oldest residential district in Historical Diriyah. Since the fifteenth century and until the eighteenth century AD, the early generations of the ruling family came from Ghasiba district, where it was the first residence of the ruling family before it moved to the At-Turaif district. Ghasiba district is distinguished by its strategic location at the top of a triangular plateau, overlooking Wadi Hanifa from three sides. The Northern side is surrounded by a huge wall that is 4 meters thick. In the middle of this wall, there is a gate that was used to allow camel convoys, the only means of transportation and carrying goods to the residents of this district, to cross through. When you look deep into Ghasiba district, you will be able to discover historical evidence of several events that took place in Diriyah. This is because the district is full of ancient mud buildings that convey vivid pictures of ancient times.
