About Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab Mosque

Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab Mosque is located in Al-Bujairi district in Diriyah, with a design that is consistent with the architectural style of the region. It is surrounded by spaces decorated with green landscapes, palm trees, and stone terraces. The mosque dates back to the time of the first Saudi state. It was built using mud with stone foundations. It was rebuilt using concrete at the expense of the late King Fahad bin AbdulAziz Al Saud in 1424 H. The mosque bears the name of Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. He was a highly regarded religious scholar during the era of the first Saudi state due to his contribution to the dissemination of Islamic teachings, writing scholarly papers, and teaching students in the mosque’s gatherings –which were called katatib in the past. The mosque contains several facilities and supporting services, including: The main mosque, which contains 16 doors in the traditional Najdi style to facilitate the movement of worshipers, in addition to a ladies’ mosque. The mosque also contains a school of Qur’anic sciences, and two Eastern and Northern courtyards. The Eastern courtyard is decorated with 18 palm trees and is cooled through six natural ventilation towers. There is also a main fountain that works as a guide to the direction of the qiblah, in case worshipers use this courtyard for prayer.
